JOE BOGOROCH

PRESIDENT, B'NAI BRITH CANADA 

Joe Bogoroch has successfully served as Chair of the Executive Committee of B’nai Brith Canada for the last three years and has been intrinsically involved in all aspects of the organization. He is a member of the Adath Israel Congregation in Toronto and has been instrumental in organizing missions of solidarity and support for Israel. He is also a member of Chabad Flamingo. He is a most accomplished and highly regarded real estate developer in the city of Toronto specializing in the restoration of historic buildings and has been cited as the individual most responsible for the saving of historic buildings in the downtown core. He is President and CEO of Bocor Management Inc. He is an alumnus of the world famous Yeshiva Vodaath and Yeshiva Mesifta.

 

DR. FRANK DIMANT 

EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT, B'NAI BRITH CANADA 

Dr. Frank Dimant is Executive Vice President of B’nai Brith Canada and CEO of the organization’s Institute for International Affairs and the League for Human Rights. He is the publisher of The Jewish Tribune, which has the highest audited circulation of all Canada’s Anglo-Jewish publications.

Dr. Dimant has led B’nai Brith Canada missions to destinations throughout the world, including Ethiopia, the Soviet Union, Hungary, Romania, Poland, China, Germany, England, France and Lebanon. He has accompanied Canadian Government delegations on official visits to Auschwitz, as well as to Israel and was a member of the Minister of Trade’s delegation for the signing of the Canada-Israel Free Trade Agreement.

In May 2008, Dr. Dimant was appointed the Chair of the newly inaugurated Department of Modern Israel Studies at Canada Christian College and the School of Graduate Theological Studies. This appointment was in recognition of his vast knowledge and expertise of Israel and the wider Middle East region.

Dr. Dimant serves on several community and advisory boards in Canada and Israel. Most recently he was appointed to serve on the Government of Canada’s Cross-Cultural Roundtable on Security, where he represents Canadian Jewry on safety and security issues. He also serves on the Board of York Region Neighbourhood Services, the Ramot Shapiro Youth Town, as well as the World Zionist Organization and Jewish Agency for Israel. He is a long-standing member of the Israeli Government’s Global Forum on Antisemitism.

In January 2005, he became a member of the Canadian Museum for Human Rights Advisory Council. He was appointed to the Vaughan Mayor’s Community Task Force on Safety and Security, as well as serving on the Toronto Police Chief’s Advisory Board. In recognition of his commitment to human rights in this country, Dr. Dimant was inducted as Honourary Chief of First Nations Keewatin Tribal Council.

In 2004, he was awarded an honourary doctorate from Canada Christian College for his commitment to creating true partnerships with the Christian community. That same year he was presented with a family Coat of Arms by the Lieutenant Governor of Ontario in recognition of his leadership in the Canadian community.

Other tributes that he has received include a commemorative medal marking the 125th Anniversary of the Confederation of Canada as well as the Queen’s Jubilee Medal commemorating the anniversary of Her Majesty the Queen’s ascension to the throne. He was honoured by the City of Tel Aviv for his efforts to establish Family Medical Clinics in underprivileged areas of the city.

A frequent lecturer, writer and media commentator, he is a recognized authority on both Israeli and Middle Eastern affairs and world Jewish issues. He is the co-editor of “From Immigration to Integration”, published in 2001, which details the history of Canadian Jews.

Educated at Yeshiva University and McGill’s Graduate School of Sociology, Frank Dimant currently resides in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), his home for more than thirty years. He is married to Florence Kupfert, a noted educator who is Chair of the English Department at Eitz Chaim Schools.

GERRY WEINSTEIN

IMMEDIATE PAST PRESIDENT, B'NAI BRITH CANADA 

Gerry Weinstein is CEO of Nirvana Management Consultants and of Notre-Dame Industrial Buildings Limited. Actively involved in community organizations he has served as President of the Foundation for Research into Children’s Diseases, Chair of the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation Bike-a-Thon, President of the Junior Chamber of Commerce, Van Horne Home and School Association, Ville Emard Rams Football Team and the Chomedy Lions Junior Baseball Club.

He has a strong commitment to Jewish community organizations, having served as President of the Jewish Hospital of Hope Foundation, a Board member of the Jewish Hospital of Hope and Jewish Nursing Homes, as well as of the Montreal Holocaust Memorial Centre.

His awards include the Supreme Medal from the Knights of Pythias, the David Ben Gurion Award from the State of Israel, a Canadian Citizenship Award from the Government of Canada, the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation “Prix d’Excellence” Award, and the Jerusalem Award from the State of Israel.

He has been named “Ambassador of the Year” by the City of Cote St. Luc. He has received the “Man of the Year Award” from the City of St. Pierre and received a special Humanitarian Award from B’nai Brith Canada for his years of support and generosity towards numerous charitable causes in Montreal.

He has served as Senior Vice-President of B’nai Brith Canada and presently serves as Chair of the B’nai Brith Canada House, an affordable housing complex in Montreal.
