London by-election tainted by antisemitic campaign, says B’nai Brith CanadaPosted On 11/27/06 London by-election tainted by antisemitic campaign, says B’nai Brith Canada
TORONTO, November 27, 2006 – B’nai Brith Canada has responded with concern to complaints from Jewish residents of London, Ontario, who were targeted by antisemitic cartoons delivered to their homes. These cartoons were accompanied by a flyer in the name of the Canadian Islamic Congress urging voters to cast their ballot for the Liberal candidate in today’s London-North-Centre by-election.
“We are concerned by the injection of antisemitism into this election campaign,” said Frank Dimant, B’nai Brith Canada’s Executive Vice President. “The hate literature that targeted Jewish voters undermines the democratic process by singling out one group of citizens on the basis of their religion and then attempting to instill fear in the minds of these voters.
“What we have seen today in London is the opportunistic use of hate tactics to advance a political agenda.”
