Sault Ste. Marie is northern Ontario’s third largest city with a population of 72,000. Located on the St. Marys River that connects Lake Huron to Lake Superior, Sault Ste. Marie is just to the north of a city with the same name in Michigan. About 14,000 people live on the American side.
The Jewish community has been present in the Soo for nearly 140 years. Congregation Beth Jacob, the first and only synagogue in the twin Saults, opened its doors 77 years ago.
B’nai Brith Canada acknowledges the support of former Mayor Christian Provenzano, who worked with B’nai Brith to proclaim May 2022 as Jewish Heritage Month.
Current Mayor Matthew Shoemaker was quick to issue a proclamation renewing the Soo’s commitment to celebrate Jewish Heritage Month in May 2023.

Marie se trouve juste au nord de la ville du même nom dans le Michigan. Environ 14 000 personnes vivent du côté américain.
La communauté juive est présente à Soo depuis près de 140 ans. La Congrégation Beth Jacob, première et unique synagogue des deux Sault, a ouvert ses portes il y a 77 ans.
B’nai Brith Canada reconnaît le soutien de l’ancien maire Christian Provenzano, qui a travaillé avec B’nai Brith pour proclamer mai 2022 Mois du patrimoine juif.
Le maire actuel, Matthew Shoemaker, n’a pas tardé à émettre une proclamation renouvelant l’engagement de Soo à célébrer le Mois du patrimoine juif en mai 2023.
