The Honourable Renee M. Pomerance, Ontario Superior Court of Justice
Linda Silver Dranoff, C.M., LSM, Lawyer, Writer and Activist
Join your Matas Law Society peers to celebrate International Women’s Day. Engage directly with women lawyers who are using their legal skills to advance gender equality, women’s rights and human rights.
You will hear from Justice Renee Pomerance about her unique experiences as Counsel to the Honourable Peter Cory on “The Collusion Inquiry”, an inquiry that took place in the United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland and examined allegations of state collusion in six cases of paramilitary murder and lessons that can be learned from that encounter. Justice Pomerance will also share insights from her participation in the Judicial Education for Economic Growth (JEEG) project in Ukraine.
As well, Linda Silver Dranoff, a lawyer, writer and activist, who has helped countless individuals to navigate the legal system, will discuss her ground-breaking legal work, pressing for family law and other reforms, activism for the women’s community, the legal community, and beyond. As a recipient of Governor General’s Award in Commemoration of the Persons Case and an appointee to the Order of Canada, Linda will deliver a first-hand perspective on the struggle for women’s rights in Canada.
