Canada Must Cease Funding Programs That Radicalize Youth and Normalize Violence
The Government of Canada recently committed $100 million dollars over 4 years to the United Nations Refugee and Works Agency (UNRWA). A portion of this funding is given to the Palestinian Authority (PA) to develop a curriculum to be used in the UNRWA schools located within the territory administered by the PA. Presently, there is no mechanism in place to ensure that the funding is being used to develop a curriculum that is in line with the goals of the United Nations (UN) and Canada’s stated foreign policy. As a result, the Palestinian Authority (PA) has been using the funds it receives, some of which emanate from Canada, to create a vitriolic and antisemitic curriculum that makes a mockery of Canada’s and the UN’s attempts to establish peace in the region. B’nai Brith has previously raised these issues with the government of Canada and has now produced a public report demanding accountability.
While the Government of Canada supports peace in the Middle East, we cannot comprehend why they have not been more vigilant in monitoring how their contribution is utilized. Knowing that a full 58% of UNRWA funds go towards education, this represents a tremendous abuse of Canadian generosity.
Tell Canada it must cease funding programs that radicalize youth and normalize violence
the federal government must not enable a curriculum that teaches hate and diminishes the prospect of peace
